Construction of the New Air Combat Capability Facilities at RAAF Base Williamtown
will support the introduction, operation and deployment of the F-35A Lightning II – Joint Strike Fighter. The RAAF Base Williamtown facilities are expected to bring about $950 million worth of work into the Newcastle region.
Over the next seven years, the project will provide welcome investment opportunities that will deliver direct and indirect economic benefits, particularly in the Newcastle region, with the potential for local-subcontractors to be part of the construction works.
Garden Island (East) Upgrade
Date Delivered: In Progress
Builder: Lend Lease
Architect: BVN
Defence is delivering critical infrastructure and engineering works at Garden Island (East), Sydney, New South Wales under a CIRP. The purpose of the works is to address significant condition, capacity and compliance issues with the wharves and base-wide engineering services.
Defence is delivering the CIRP works in two stages:
· Stage One will demolish the existing Cruiser and Oil wharves, and build a new wharf in a revised alignment in their place. The new realigned wharf will be equipped with a crane, engineering services and wharf furniture to replace those removed during demolition; and
· Stage Two will remediate the remaining wharves as well as base-wide engineering services such as the electrical and fuel systems.
OMMPCC - John Morony Correctional Upgrade
(Currently completing)
Date Delivered: In Progress
Builder: Hansen Yuncken
Architect: Perumal Pedavoli
Outer Metropolitan opened in 2000 and can house up to 380 male inmates in a minimum-security environment. As part of the upgrade, we will rebuild the facility with a mix of minimum- and medium-security beds, tailored for remand inmates. The gatehouse and administration block will be replaced, and the visits area refurbished.
Given its strategic location within the Sydney basin, the Outer Metropolitan Multi-Purpose Correctional Centre is being upgraded to a more secure yet more flexible design that can:
· Provide improved work and educational opportunities for inmates on long-term remand.
· Expand access to voluntary drug treatment and other programs that help to reduce reoffending.
Historically, services provided to remand inmates have been limited because the time they will spend within the system can be very short. But with more inmates spending longer on remand, specialist facilities are required to ensure that time spent on remand is not wasted.
